Do this exercise. Go to your favorite AI and ask it about yourself. This is what I got for you:
Richard Donnelly is an American writer whose work has appeared in publications such as The Drake, Gray's Sporting Journal, and American Angler. Additionally, his poetry has been featured in Rattle magazine. He also maintains a presence on Substack, where he shares his writings.
It would take you 10 minutes to put up a website and really control your story. I want to know more about you, and I think your readers will do too. A personal website + Substack = a powerful combo. The website funnels traffic to Substack, grows your audience, and strengthens your brand as a writer.
Just follow what Liz says. Can I say it more plainly? You don’t spend years and years studying the landscape and helping authors navigate the ever changing publishing world without knowing exactly how to bring a writer’s work to fruition. I work with writers every day: there is no one better to entrust with your work than Liz. We’re fortunate to have her!
My plaint, the one I put in 355 characters in the “Why I…” became less important when I dug down into the Write Kit website. I see the outline now and my question about building a following is somewhat answered. I will consider digging deeper with your service, since I have been involved in publishing with my wife, romantic suspense writer Elizabeth Lowell, for fifty years but have never put up my own website or fired up a blog beyond the one that is taking shape in my mind, now that the Prior Similars manuscript is close to final shape.
Let's make a pack. Every Friday we will add 3 new people to our mailing list. Real people. Go through your texts, emails, calls and find those people you have had real connections with. You Email list needs some love.
Wonderful, quirky and informative! Great piece, (Tell me again what button I push to ‘re-stack ‘ your post, so my literate friends can understand why I hired you to guide me thru Substackland?)

Isn't Substack our website?
Yes but you need another one specifically to writers.
But mine is : ) Not to belabor the point but I just don't see much difference

Thank you Liz. This is a riot. That bot doesn't make me sound so bad : ) But I hear what you're saying. This makes sense.
