Being a writer is hard and time-consuming, but you’re taking the time to read this Substack, so there must be a reason you think it’s all worth it. We believe there are several ways to tap into your subconscious, and tapping into your subconscious is important if you’re committed to living life as a whole artist— someone who successfully creates and promotes their work.
You have a story to tell. You’re fascinated by putting together the puzzle pieces to create the biggest impact. The more you dive into the writing process, the more you discover who you are. This is true for both fiction and nonfiction. Conveying ideas with clarity and purpose forces you to confront things inside yourself – to explain your thinking to others.
But why are you telling this story now?
Let’s say you’re an expert in a particular area with significant professional experience. A book will give you a calling card and a way of validating your reputation. Your book will help raise your profile as a speaker and further your career. People in your industry will understand more about you and how your thinking contributes to that field.
Or let’s say you’re more of a dreamer type, an obsessive wonderer. The world around us is rich with so many fascinating stories and countless causes and effects. You find yourself with a need to present your universe of human emotion and spirit to the rest of the world. But maybe you’ve never thought of yourself as a “real writer,” or maybe the idea of poring over a manuscript for months just seems beyond your grasp.
We beg to differ!
Someone out there needs to hear your story. But how do you make the leap from the ideas in your head to words on the page, and finally into the minds of an audience?
Even if you think you have nothing to say today, sit with your words. Read over what you’ve done. Don’t be afraid to try different approaches. Your needs as a writer will likely vary over time. Stay alert to those kinds of changes. Remember:
Your book misses you.
